Fuel Cleaning

PORTABLE FUEL DOCTOR

The portable fuel doctor – A highly compact, portable fuel polishing system, designed with particulate and bacteria removal down to 3 micron and removing both free water to 99.9% and emulsified water to 96%.

This powerful system boasts an ultra quiet PTFE pump providing fuel filtration at 10 litres per minute, effectively agitating the fuel in your tanks, providing fresh fuel to your engines, reducing expensive bills from damage to your fuel systems and giving you peace of mind from fuel related breakdowns.

W10DCMOD Mobile fuel polishing system – instructions rev2301

Power: 12 or 24v DC
Flow: 10lpm (variable speed)
Amb.Temp: -5 to +50 deg C
Fuse: 7.5a
Max pressure: 2bar
Max lift: 2.5m
Filtration: 3, 6 or 10mic (6 is the default) with free/emulsified water removal and manual drain.

Self-priming, with integral check valve. For use with diesel fuel and light oils. Filter is only designed for diesel. Not for use with petrol or liquids with a flash point below 35C. Not for use with corrosive liquids or those with a viscosity over 350cSt.

ISO8846 compliant. Note the pump body can heat up to 60deg C during operation. This is normal.

To operate the system, connect the 2 hoses to the input/output and place in the fuel. Connect 12 to 24v DC to the crocodile clips. Main Control Box (right) shows the operation of the unit.

The POWER light on the main control box will illuminate and (if the speed controller has been set to auto-start mode) the pump will start.

If an incorrect current is observed, the pop-up FUSE will trip. To reset, remove the power, press the fuse back in, and reapply power. Note, unless you remove the cause of the high current event, the fuse will trip again.

WATER light will show, and the pump will stop if the water in fuel sensor inside the filter detects a water build up. To remove the alarm, drain water from the filter and cycle the power to start the system again.

FILTER light will show, and the pump will stop if the top pressure sensor (top right of machine, under rubber boot) triggers. This indicates the main filter is full and should be changed. The sensor is adjustable (remove rubber boot, CCW to trigger at a lower pressure,

CW to trigger at a higher pressure). It has been pre-set to 1bar.

Resetting of any alarm on main control box requires a power cycle.

The speed control system changes the flow rate of the pump and the startup mode. It also provides an extra level of auto-stop protection as it will not allow the pump to run if the system is blocked.

The pump control panel has 6 LED functions

LED Brightness Change Operation

When the mode is activated, press the RESET button to increase brightness and the ON/ OFF button to decrease it. To confirm the new setting press both keys once again. There are 8 levels of brightness.

AutoStart Mode Operation

Mode 1 – automatically restart.
Mode 2 – press ON/Off button to control motor start. To change the mode, power the system off, press/hold the RESET button, power the system on. Keep the RESET button pressed until the red LED starts flashing. This indicates the mode has changed successfully. Repeat to change mode back.

Speed change

Speed reduction (min 35%) is obtained by briefly pressing the key of the mode currently in use, until the desired speed is reached: the setting is then saved and by selecting the mode (oil or diesel), the speed will be the last one saved.

No Liquid Detection Function

This turns the pump off after 90sec on low current draw to protect the pump from running dry. It can be disabled to prevent unwanted power-offs, but it is the operator’s responsibility to ensure liquid presence to prevent damage to the pump. The blue LED on the pressure sensor stays OFF in this mode. On the speed control panel, the blue led blinking, because its status is no longer updated.

When starting the pump, or when emptying a tank, slightly open the small valve in the order to let air out and facilitate the priming. As soon as the pump is operating, close the small valve.

Filter Servicing

Draining Water

When the water sensor triggers, the unit requires water to be manually extracted. As this filter is on the pressure side of the pump, the water drain tap can be unscrewed at any point to let water out, even when the pump is running. Note, hoses are not connected, the unit is sealed, and so minimal water will exit the filter in this case. We recommend draining water when the hoses are connected.

Changing the filter element

When the filter is full, the system will stop. To change the filter element, we recommend removing the power from the unit, draining fuel from the water bowl.

Removing the hoses from the system, use the black filer removal tool to unscrew the filter collar (right to left to unscrew), this allows the bowl and element to be removed. Replacement filter element and replace the bowl onto filter head. Re-tighten the filter collar (left to right to tighten). When the two white marks line-up, the filter is ready to use.
